40年来最亮的一颗彗星“飞临”智利上空

　　据智利《三点钟报》２０日报道，以澳大利亚天文学家罗伯特·麦克诺特命名的麦克诺特彗星日前“飞临”智利上空。天文学家说，这是近４０年来全球所能观测到的最亮的一颗彗星，人们平均每百年仅有一至两次机会可观测到如此亮度的彗星。
　　
　　麦克诺特彗星是麦克诺特于２００６年发现的。据智利欧洲南方天文观测台天文学家埃曼努埃尔·赫因介绍，麦克诺特彗星来自奥尔特星云，这是它首次接近太阳，在其彗核迅速气化之后，宇宙尘埃形成的彗尾长达几万公里。与其他彗星不同的是，麦克诺特彗星不会周期性地光临地球。在本次露面之后，它将缓慢地回归奥尔特星云。
　　
　　报道说，麦克诺特彗星的亮度超过金星，在智利境内未来数月都能观测到，但随着它离太阳越来越远，其亮度和能量都会逐渐减弱。智利的最佳观测时间是未来一周内每晚２２时至次日凌晨５时，人们可以用肉眼在智利西部天空观测到这颗彗星。
