    如今，纽约大学的一位考古学家加入了这场争论，提出了最新的第三种解释。他认为，两名相拥男子或许是连体双胞胎。这位专家是纽约大学美术学院古埃及艺术教授戴维·奥康纳，他说：“我认为尼安克克努姆和克努姆霍特普其实就是双胞胎，而且还是连体双胞胎，正是这种身体特征才造成古墓壁画中不断出现他们手牵手或相拥的描写。”
