    孟菲斯位于埃及尼罗河三角洲南端，今开罗西南23公里的米特.拉辛纳村，曾为王国政治、军事和宗教中心。从公元前3100年前起就是埃及最古老的首都，定都且长达800年之久。
    
    据传于公元前三千年为法老米那（美尼斯）所建，名“白城”，后改称孟菲斯。曾作为古王国（公元前二十七至前二十二世纪）的都城。公元前二千年代为底比斯所取代，但仍为埃及宗教、文化名城。公元七世纪被毁。当时是全世界最壮丽伟大的都市，毁于公元7世纪，现在只留下一个迷你博物馆及花园中残破的石雕供人凭吊。
