    爱因斯坦的伟大突破来源于他大脑中的虚拟实验，而不是实验室。他们称之为“思维实验（Gedankenexperiment ）"。十六岁的时候，爱因斯坦就试着在大脑中勾画沿着光线奔跑的图像：如果你达到了光速，光波相对你来说就是静止的。但是按照有关电磁波的麦克斯韦公式，这是不可能出现的事实。他知道数学是自然语言，是用来描述她的奇迹的，所以他一直在设想怎样用数学公式来描述现实。因此，之后的十年中，爱因斯坦一直在做着他的思维实验，直到他找到狭义相对论为止。
