    侵华日军在战争中利用中国战场进行毒气实验，特别是用人体进行实验，是其化学作战的重要组成部分。尽管日本军队对于毒气实验的情况严格保密，但是战后还是有许多证据暴露出来。

    日本内务省防空研究所一位技师曾详细介绍了芥子气和路易氏气的性质和伤害情况。在附带的18张照片上，展示了被毒气伤害后的人体各部位，有的是在染毒后发生水疱的情况，有的是在水疱破裂后皮肤溃烂的情况。与照片相对应还附有一张图表，介绍的是在一个人的左右手同一部位分别滴上同量的芥子气和路易氏气后的伤害情况，对该伤害观察了47天。图表记录了两处实验部位恢复的情况。

    1943年，侵华日军516部队在对瓦斯中队进行培训时，进行了以人体为实验对象的毒气实验。在其秘密报告中记载：让33人通过被芥子气污染的地带，有人只装备了防毒面具，有人穿着轻防毒服。结果，11人在通过染毒地带后丧失了战斗力。
